SRC: Strawberry Salsa

It's another reveal day for the secret recipe club!  This month I was given a blog named Frans Favs.  Let me just start by saying WOW.  I browsed through page after page of drool-worthy recipes, being more impressed with each passing recipe.  Needless to say, I have bookmarked like 99% of the recipes in her blog!  Fran has had a passion for food since she entered this world; and her passion and love for food has only grown.  She had two parents that loved food and that love has trickled down to Fran and her sisters.  She has a cookbook collection that consists of 300 cookbooks and is ever growing.  That collection to begin to touch the endless amount of recipes from newspapers, magazines and websites.  She is now employeed at a place that any food lover would consider a dream; she works side-by-side with flavor scientists and she even gets to be a taste tester from time to time.  How awesome is that?  I could go on and on about her, but just head on over to her blog and read about her yourself and while you're there, take a look at all the delicious recipes!

DB: Pepper Jack and Oregano Crackers

Do you ever walk up and down the cracker isle at the store in awe of just exactly how many types and varieties of crackers there are?  If that's not enough to boggle your mind, then thinking about the process of what goes into making each one of those crackers will get you to thinking.  To take it one step further, I then think about the ins and outs of each process and wonder if it's possible to make such deliciously crispy crackers at home.  Well, guess what?  It's very possible.  And, the upside about making homemade crackers is they can be customized with the flavors that suite your tastes.  From sweet to savory, they can all be done at home.  Even better, it's honestly not that diffucult and doesn't require any special equipment!

Strawberry Scones

Do you have those recipes that you have on your "to make" list that you just haven't conquered yet for one reason or another?  If you're anything like me, then the answer is yes.  My list is ever growing, but one thing that has been on my list for quite some time is scones.  Yes, scones.  I am not really sure why they have continually gotten pushed to the way-side but they have.  I think one of the main reasons I hadn't yet attempted them was because I didn't have a special scone pan.  I know, that's not really an appropriate or even a good excuse but that's the main reason.

Mango Lentil Curry

So, have you heard of lentils?  By now, I'm probably thinking your answer is yes.  Lentils, along with various other beans and grains are becoming ever so popular in the food world.  I think their popularity is a result of a variety of things; mainly though, the ever growing population of vegetarians.  Lentils are another great option for anyone looking to create a filling meal without the use a lot, or any meat plus they provide tons of nutrients.

Turkey and Chorizo Burgers with Green Chile Mayonnaise

Our house is a house that LOVES burgers.  And no, not just your typical hamburger, but burgers of all shapes, sizes and meat varieties.  There's just not a whole lot that beats a good burger.  To me a burger is more than just a patty with a variety of toppings; the perfect burger starts with a perfectly, well-seasoned patty and the additions and toppings are there to enhance and compliment the flavor, not to add flavor to a bland piece of meat.

Product Review: OXO Mini Lock Top Food Storage Containers

As part of the OXO blogger outreach, I have been able to take advantage of product reviews and contests.  I was incredibly excited to have been given the opportunity to review a product from their healthy eating tools line.  There were serveral amazing options to choose from, and I ended up receiving one of my top choices to review!

I received the Mini LockTop Containers from OXO.  Part of their product guarantee and description states: "The Containers were designed with leak proof, airtight lids that snap on easily and confidently."  They also guarantee that they go from freezer, to microwave to dishwasher effortlessly.  After reading their description I was incredibly excited to have the opportunity to test this prodcut!

I am constantly using food storage containers to store various types of food; from soups to stews, to meat, to vegetables, and even ice cream.  I need containers that can handle whatever I put in them, and I want to have the peace of mind that they will seal in even the thinnest of liquids.  I also enjoy making food in advance, dividing it into individual portions and freezing them for later use.  Another "must" I look for in storage containers is they need to be microwavable, and it's a plus if they are dishwasher safe as well.  As convenient as a container may be, if it's not microwave safe it's a turn-off to me. 

I am proud to say, after a series of very rigorous testing that these containers from OXO not only met but exceeded my expectations.  I have used them to store soup, and can I tell you that not even one out of liquid escaped.  I've used them to freeze casseroles, soups, and various other dishes.  They sealed each and every dish so well, that when reheated you couldn't even tell it had been frozen.  I've microwaved in them and they heat perfectly and don't warp.  They have taken a few spins in dishwasher and still look brand new.  The lids go on incredibly easy with no effort whatsoever.  Another thing I love about these containers is they nest; so they are perfect for those kitchens with the smalles amount of storage space.  These containers are clear, so it takes all the guess work out of trying to remember what you put in which bowl; just store it and pop it in the fridge or freezer and your done!

I was beyond impressed with these containers from OXO.  The mini containers are a perfect and convenient size to have on hand.  I always find myself with containers that are either too big for what I need to store or too little; these are the perfect size.  OXO also offers a variety of other sizes in  the LockTop container collection, so you will be sure to find a size container that fits your needs that can be used with ease!

Pasta with goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes and arugula
Turkey-chorizo burgers, grilled vegetable salad and homemade french fries
